Music Man Amps
How can I convince Hare Krishna musicians to turn down their amplification?
The Hare Krishna musicians always play at our farmers’ market in Sacramento. The music is so loud that it dominates the whole market, which is one of the coolest places to be in downtown Sac–very multicultural, down to earth, and full of life. I much prefer our local blues guitarist (Johnny Knox), who has played there acoustically since forever, but he is drowned out by the Hare Krishna music which is repetitive and boring. The man in charge of the market says that he has asked them to stop, but because they play on the street right next to the market, he cannot enforce that they turn off or turn down their amps. Any advice on how to ask these musicians nicely (but also effectively) to blend in instead of dominate?
Contact the local police. There’s probably a law against blasting music, even outdoors. If there isn’t, the people at the market could petition the local government to have one enacted on the grounds that the noise disturbs their customers, and thus interferes with their ability to do business.
