Dwight Yoakam Tickets – Yoakam Leads Country Music Transition to Film

Several country music superstars are on the rise as crossover acts in the film industry, and not just contemporary country’s leading ladies and gentlemen. Dwight Yoakam, one of the few surviving traditional country music heavyweights still on the scene, has also been busy honing his acting chops as of late, and he’ll prove his multitalented ways in the near future.

Yoakam has recently been involved in the independent film Provinces of Night, starring in the production alongside Kris Kristofferson, Val Kilmer and Hilary Duff. The movie, directed by Shane Dax Taylor, was filmed last year in North Carolina and premiered this February at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and it will soon grace the movie screen at the Nashville Film Festival, which takes place April 15-22 in Music City.

Provinces of Night isn’t the only recent foray into acting for Dwight Yoakam, however, as the country music cowboy has also signed onto the upcoming film Dirty Girl, which features Juno Temple, Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy and Mary Steenburgen. The film, according to Reuters, is about “a notorious high school slut who runs away with her closeted gay classmate to drive from Oklahoma to California to find the father she’s never met.” Casting for Dirty Girl has just been announced and the film is slated to premiere sometime in 2011.

While Dwight Yoakam is racking up quite the impressing acting resume these days, he’s certainly not departing from his country music roots just yet. The honky tonk crooner who caught his big break singing traditional Southern-themed hits in the 1980s is still plowing through the music industry as a throwback to the days of Hank Williams, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and he’s doing so with smashing success.

Yoakam’s deep voice, catchy guitar strumming, mysterious persona and signature low-sitting cowboy hat have helped to make the country music star a legend, and his stripped-down traditional country style is one that won’t soon be matched. The honky tonk hero got his start in the music industry in the mid-1980s, notching his first No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1986, when his debut album Guitars, Cadillacts, Etc., Etc. hit the top slot on the Country Albums chart.

Yoakam quickly became hailed a traditional country music icon, and he has become the quintessential traditional country music act on the scene through the ’90s and ’00s. Songs like “It Won’t Hurt,” “Fast as You” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” have drawn loads of attention to the traditional country tunes of Dwight Yoakam, and even despite the changing style of popular country music the native Kentuckian continues to reap success with his own unique sound.

Most recently coming off the release Dwight Sings Buck – a tribute to Buck Owens – in 2007, Dwight Yoakam continues placating the music scene with scores of live performances around the year. Dwight Yoakam tickets are now available for a slew of concert dates this summer, which will see the stoic country icon embark upon a journey to places such as the Hullabalou Music Festival at the famed Churchill Downs Racetrack in Kentucky.

Country music fans are running to get tickets from StubHub to a crazy little thing called a Dwight Yoakam concert, and the country music icon will soon be gracing more than the radio with his presence.
