latin music tunes
Why do some people think romantic (especially old) songs are cheesy even if they like them?

Do they have a dual personality disorder? I mean, I like old 80’s love ballads and I don’t think they’re cheesy. It would be demeaning to my feelings to call them cheesy. If someone thinks they’re cheesy, why would they like them?

I’m a latin guy so I guess I take my romanticism seriously. Are we that desensitized nowadays to not take into consideration the romaticism in music as part of the quality of the song? Or is it just the style of the music [not the lyrics] that’s tuning people off?

Oh dear, your Latin side is definitely showing, hehe.

I think that each individual experiences music in his/her own way, so what touches you may not necessarily be the same for another, besides, in our Spanish, Latin and South American cultures (as well as, other ethnicities) we are raised to see and experience music in such manner, from an emotional and even spiritual level sometimes… take flamenco for example, notice the passion with which the musicians play, the profoundness of the singers as they vocalise their cantado and the dancers – the look of intense agony or pleasure expressed in their faces and movements… it’s simply the way we express ourselves. Others see and experience music in their own way, culturally and individually.
I think that romanticism is more of an idea and attitude, if you observe certain cultures very different from your own, you may find that there is very little romanticism (if any) in their ordinary lifestyles, to me, it’s not good or bad, it is simply different, as each one of us is.

Now crank up that music dj, I want slow dance to some ballads. :-)
