If major in chemistry, do I have to tell anybody I want to go to medical school?
I’ve been looking at colleges recently like GWU. They said they have an accelerated pre-med program but it is the toughest thing to get into at the school? For admissions purposes, if I don’t apply for that exact program and decide to major in chemistry instead, will I still be able to go to med. school by taking the required classes? Hypothetically, could I major in something crazy like music theory and still get into med. school the year after I graduate colllege?
Short answer, yes, you can get into medical school with ANY type of major.
Long answer… No matter what major you choose, if you want to go to med school, you need to talk “pre-med” courses, like biology, genetics, general chemisitry, and organic chemistry. These are like “basic” classes used as a foundation for medical school, and the provide the general information needed for you to do well on the MCAT exam.
Also, you don’t have to “TELL” everyone you want to go to med school, if you don’t want to. It only really will come up when you start asking professors for recommendations your senior year of college.
Good luck!
