Latin Music Orishas

Good Latin music to try? Or Latin influenced rock/alternative/gothic metal?
I know I’m picky, but a lot of the Latin stuff I listen to I don’t like, some of it I love. I like dance rhythms or more mysterious songs; I definitely *don’t* like songs that are overly poplike and cheesy, and while I don’t really dislike the very typical salsa stuff (e.g. Celia Cruz, or stuff with tons of trumpets), it gets repetitive. It’s a little hard to describe exactly, but here’s some songs I love…

Shakira- I love Suerte (whenever, wherever) and Ojos Asi, Hips don’t lie and Te Aviso Te Anuncio (Objection) are OK, and as far as I know I hate all her other stuff!

Gotan Project- Una Musica Brutal
Except for the first few I only know a couple songs by all these people, so I’d like any other good song recommendations. And any artists you think I would like…

You might try looking into Timba, i.e. Cuban salsa. It is more “hardcore” and modern than “regular” salsa. Of course it also has horn lines, but they tend to lean more towards funk than jazz (depending on the group). It also has a heavier afro-cuban influence than most regular salsa.

I like Orishas too and Shakira but actually I like the stuff she did in Colombia better than what she’s done since moving to the US.
Lola, Lola by La Charanga habanera. The first time I heard this song I thought I’d never heard anything so perfect in my life 
This video is from a live performance in 1997. During the song the lead singer climbed the scaffolding and started doing a fake strip tease. The band was suspended form performing for 6 month after this concert.
Vengo de estreno by Azúcar Negra. I love these lyrics especially the line “viste, te cogiste el dedo con la puerta!”.
